Women unrepresented in high powered Luxembourg jobs and directorships

Without wanting to paint the Grand Duchy as a sexist or repressive nation, when it is obviously far more enlightened than many, some new figures show in sexual equality it has some way to go.

Recently the national newspaper, the Wort commissioned a survey into the make up of Luxembourg boards and the identity of the directors in those high powered Luxembourg jobs. Stunningly it would seem women are practically invisible amongst these directors. Whilst the survey did come with the caveat that it only reviewed the board structure of
Members of the Grand Duchies exchange and listed Luxembourg companies, it is still a faintly shocking acknowledgement.

The paper which devoted a double page spread to the results has certainly run with the story. It is known it has been discussed at the highest levels in the Grand Duchies government. Coming as it does as the same time as the arrival of European Commissioner, Michel Barnier for his planned stay in Luxembourg – the timing of these revelations was bad. Thank god for Berlusconi!

The survey found that only three of the 89, or 2 % of the total directors are women surveyed: Bridget Cosgrave (SES) and Suzanne Nimocks and Vanisha Mittal Bhatia (both at ArcelorMittal) - This is far below the European average for the make up for those high powered board jobs in Luxembourg.
